Authorities have suspended the manhunt near the Rock Hill Galleria mall after an armed robbery at a nearby shopping area Monday morning.

The robbery happened just before 10 a.m. outside a strip mall at 2391 Dave Lyle Blvd., said Capt. Brent Allmon, a Rock Hill Police spokesman. As of 12:45 p.m., the search had been suspended.

The female victim was outside the strip mall when an unknown man approached her and robbed her at gunpoint, Allmon said. After taking the victim’s wallet, the suspect was last seen walking toward the Kohl’s shopping center.

K-9 teams tracked for a short distance near Kohl’s, and Allmon said it’s not clear if the suspect fled into the woods or got into a car.

The alleged victim, an employee at the Check and Go, told The Herald’s news partner, WSOC-TV, she was alone when the robbery happened. Allmon said she was not injured.

Investigators are still working to compile surveillance footage of the area where the robbery happened. The victim described the suspect as a black male in his late 20s, wearing a black hoodie, blue jeans and possibly a white t-shirt under the hoodie. She said the man appeared to have some facial hair.

Allmon said anyone who was in the area at the time and saw someone matching that description is asked to call Rock Hill Police at 803-329-7200.

Rock Hill Police swarmed the area, with several units and police dogs on the hunt for the suspect. Sheriff’s deputies joined in when the search reached county jurisdiction.
