Report: NC man drags York County deputy during arrest
An Asheville, N.C. man remains jailed after allegedly telling a deputy who found him passed out in his car that he was not in York, then spitting on an officer after dragging a deputy while handcuffed.
Zachary Cole Miller, 31, is being held on a $7,262.50 bond after the Friday night incident along S.C. 5 where he was charged with public disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and throwing body fluids on an officer, according to a York County Sheriff’s Office report and jail records.
Deputies found Miller “passed out” across the front seats of the vehicle around 11 p.m. Friday, the report states, and after knocking on the window several times Miller allegedly crawled through the driver side window opening. Officers said that Miller became irate and was walking in a travel lane of the highway, police said.
Miller used profanity against the officers and when told he was in York replied “I’m not in York, you are not York County.”
When a deputy attempted to handcuff him, Miller allegedly said, “well, slap ‘em on then” before pushing away from the officer and at times “dragging” the officer in an attempt to flee while cuffed, the report states.
The officer called for backup and several officers responded. During arrest Miller spat in the face of one of the deputies, according to the report.
