The York County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Monday robbery at a Fort Mill bank that was allegedly carried out by a man dressed as a woman.

The robbery happened just before 1 p.m. at the Yadkin Bank on Gold Hill Road in Fort Mill, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office. Witnesses said a man dressed as a woman, wearing a long black wig, large-rimmed glasses, a gray dress and carrying a handbag, robbed the bank.

The suspect gave the bank clerk a note demanding money, but it’s not clear if he showed a weapon, deputies said. He then fled out the front door toward S.C. 160. It’s unclear if the suspect left in a vehicle.

York County K-9 units responded but were unable to track the suspect.

Anyone with information about this person or crime is asked to call Crime Stoppers of York County at 1-877-409-4321, or the York County Sheriff's Office at 803-628-3059.
