Police: Woman charged after Rock Hill strong-arm robbery was not driver
A woman charged after a strong-arm robbery at a Cherry Road store last week was mistakenly identified as the driver who helped the suspect flee, according to Rock Hill Police.
Laura Littlefield, 45, was identified in a Rock Hill Police news release as the driver of the vehicle in which Quincy Duwall Byrd, 38, was seen fleeing after police say he snatched a purse from a woman who was loading groceries into her car. The incident happened Sept. 25 outside the Walmart Neighborhood Market on Cherry Road.
A woman was loading groceries into her car in the store’s parking lot about 9:30 a.m. when a man pushed her from behind and took her purse, police have said. The suspect then ran to a dark-colored vehicle driven by a woman, and they fled into a neighborhood directly behind the store.
It was later determined Littlefield was not the driver of the vehicle, Capt. Mark Bollinger said Thursday.
“That information was developed after the initial press release,” he said. “She was observed in the area a short time later and was uncooperative and hindered officers in their investigation while they were trying to catch the male suspect.”
Littlefield was charged with hindering police and later released on bond.
Bollinger said investigators determined Littlefield and Byrd are acquaintances. Byrd was charged with strong-arm robbery and later released on bond.
