SC deputies search for suspect who ‘intentionally’ hit Guardsman helping with flood relief
Richland County sheriff’s deputies are requesting the public’s assistance in locating a suspect responsible for injuring a State Guardsman during a hit-and-run incident on Shop Road Friday.
Lt. Curtis Wilson, a department spokesman, said the guardsman was directing traffic outside the Harvest Hope Food Bank in the 2200 block of Shop Road Friday morning when a driver struck him. The driver then fled the scene.
Wilson said the guardsman suffered non-life-threatening injuries during the incident.
Sheriff Leon Lott told reporters that witnesses told deputies the driver of the vehicle intentionally hit the guardsman. Lott also said when the suspect is caught, he will be charged with attempted murder.
Lott said the vehicle involved in the incident is described as a silver SUV, with a partial license plate number of 717.
If anyone has information regarding this incident they are urged to call Crimestoppers at 888-CRIME-SC.
