York police: Gun reported stolen was tossed in pond by owner’s daughter

A stolen firearm found in a pond was tossed there as the result of a family dispute, according to a York police report.

Officers were called to a home on Oliver Street off of South Pacific Avenue on Tuesday after a man came home from work and found the handgun he kept under his pillow was missing.

Police didn’t have to look far for a suspect. The man’s 27-year-old daughter claimed she had taken the gun and thrown it into a nearby pond.

The officers spoke to the woman at the home, who said she took the weapon because she was upset over “an incident that occurred in 2014,” the report states. The father told officers the woman had not been taking her prescribed medication.

The woman directed officers to the pond and told them she put the gun in an Aldi bag before disposing of it. The officers were able to see “the handles of the bag floating on top of the water” and one officer waded in and retrieved the bag, which contained a Cobra .22 magnum Derringer pistol.

No charges were filed over the incident.
