Two people were jailed on drug charges after an officer pulled over a vehicle for a cracked windshield, according to Rock Hill Police.

An officer saw the vehicle driving with a cracked windshield on Cherry Road late Tuesday afternoon, according to a police report. He pulled the vehicle over, and the driver was detained because she didnt’ have a license.

The passenger, 41-year-old Reginald Anderson, was asked to exit the vehicle and gave consent to search him, police said. They found a crack pipe in the pocket of his hoodie.

The driver, 33-year-old Melissa Chambers, said there was “nothing in the truck that officers could search” when they asked for permission to search it, police said. Anderson told officers Chambers had “some sort of illegal drugs” in the vehicle, and that she became nervous when the officer started following her.

Anderson said Chambers threw a small “gum or mint” container under the seat to hide it from police, the report states. Inside a Mentos container on the floorboard, officers found a “large” crack rock that weighed about .68 grams, and a small amount of crack cocaine scattered on the driver’s seat where Chambers was sitting.

Chambers told officers she had no knowledge of the drugs, and Anderson also denied ownership. Each was charged with possession of crack cocaine and placed in the Rock Hill city jail.
