Rock Hill man accused of stabbing brother
A Rock Hill man stabbed his younger brother in stomach with a kitchen knife when the victim tried to break up a fight between the suspect and his girlfriend, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.
William Lawrence Lynch, 33, of Garden Way, was charged with assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature and placed in the York County Detention Center, where he remained Wednesday under $25,000 bond, according to the sheriff’s office.
The incident happened earlier this week at Lynch’s home, according to a sheriff’s report. Deputies were told several people involved in the incident were fleeing, and officers pulled the vehicle over on Constitution Boulevard.
A woman who identified herself as Lynch and the victim’s sister said she was asked to come to the home to “calm things” between the men, who were fighting, deputies said. When she got there, the 32-year-old brother told her Lynch stabbed him in the stomach and cut his arm.
The victim’s wife told deputies he was trying to break up a fight between Lynch and his girlfriend, and that the two men began struggling, the report states. The fight moved to a breezeway outside the home, where Lynch allegedly stabbed his brother.
The younger brother said when he tried to intervene in the argument between Lynch and his girlfriend, Lynch accused him of sleeping with her, deputies said. They began wrestling inside the home and continued fighting outside in the breezeway.
Lynch told deputies his girlfriend was arguing about him being out at a bar all night when the victim got between them. Lynch said he began wrestling with his brother, and that the victim was holding him against a railing when the victim first said anything about bleeding.
Lynch “stated several times that this was just a family dispute, and that he didn’t stab his brother,” the report states.
The victim said he didn’t want Lynch to get in trouble, but he “still didn’t think it was right to be stabbed with a knife.”
