A Rock Hill man wanted by police was arrested Thursday after allegedly speeding through a school zone and leading police on a chase.

In the incident on South Cherry Road before 8 a.m, officers pulled over Terence Thibodeaux, 29, after he allegedly was driving 45 mph in a 25 mph school zone that had flashing signs, according to a Rock Hill Police Department report.

Dispatch advised the officers that Thibodeaux and the female passenger each had arrest warrants pending for alleged theft of electric current from Rock Hill Utilities. When the officer asked Thibodeaux to step out of the car, he allegedly fled on foot.

The officer called for backup and several police officers started a chase on foot. Police sent an officer to nearby Finley Road Elementary School but did not ask for a school lockdown, said Mark Bollinger, a department spokesman.

Officers head a woman’s “loud screams” and saw Thibodeaux leap a fence after running out of a shed on Pine Terrace. They were able to catch Thibodeaux, according to police.

Thibodeaux was found to be wanted not just in Rock Hill, but by the Union County police for another alleged crime. He was charged with resisting police and other charges and is being held without bond at the York County jail.

The passenger and Thibodeaux were both charged with stealing electricity and the woman was released, according to police.
