Rock Hill man charged with child endangerment, DUI after fleeing police
A Rock Hill man was charged with child endangerment and DUI Thursday after allegedly fleeing from police with an 8-year-old child in the car, according to a Rock Hill Police Department report.
Johnathan Alfonzo Barnes, 25, remained in the Rock Hill jail Friday, according to jail officials.
Police on Thursday responded to a complaint of an alleged reckless driver on West Main Street who “almost clipped” a driver when passing. The caller also told police that the vehicle was weaving and driving in the middle of the road.
Police caught up with the vehicle and the driver, identified as Barnes, pulled into the entrance of an apartment complex just west of Heckle Boulevard. Barnes was asked by an officer if he had any alcohol to drink and he denied it, police said, but Barnes did say he had been taking cold medication.
When the officer asked Barnes to get out of the vehicle to give a field sobriety test, Barnes allegedly fled down the side street in the vehicle. The street was a dead end and police quickly apprehended Barnes, the report states.
Barnes was charged with child endangerment, DUI, and failure to stop, according to police records.
