2 men arrested after York police say drinking led to baseball bat attack

Two men were arrested this week when one chased the other down the street with a baseball bat after a day of drinking, according to a York police report.

Officers went to the 500 block of Roberts Avenue around 5 p.m. Tuesday after getting reports of a fight in the street. Police found a 48-year-old man at the corner of Hunter Street who “appeared to be drunk,” according to the report, “swaying and having problems maintaining his balance.”

The man told officers another man was chasing him with a bat. The officers took the man back to the house he had come from and found a baseball bat resting on the trunk of a car. Police spoke to another 48-year-old man who had supposedly wielded the bat and three other men at the house – at least one of whom the report also describes as drunk.

Witnesses told the officers the first man they met on the street had been at the house and struck one of the other men with an object. They forced the man out of the house, and he reportedly began fighting with the other 48-year-old, who took a bat and chased the man approximately 50 yards up the street.

Both men who ran down Roberts Avenue were charged with public disorderly conduct.
