A defective brake light led to a drug bust Wednesday night in Rock Hill.

Officers with Rock Hill Police Department’s street crimes unit were on routine patrol at about 8:30 p.m. when they noticed a Hyundai with non-working lights on the back of the car, according to a police report.

Officers pulled over the car and approached the driver, who appeared “very nervous” while speaking with police, the report states. He was shaking, breathing heavy and short in his answers.

Police noticed several small clear sandwich bags in the driver’s side door panel, so they asked to search the driver.

Officers found two small baggies of a white powdery substance and three small bags of marijuana in his coat, the report states.

Brandon Sutton, 21, of Catawba, was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine and possession of marijuana, according to the report. The 1.4 grams of cocaine and 5.7 grams of marijuana was seized and placed into evidence.

Sutton was placed in the Rock Hill city jail, where he remained Thursday under $6,000 bond.
