Man escapes Lancaster house fire, arson suspected

Investigators believe arson was the cause of an early morning house fire in Lancaster on Friday, according to the Lancaster Police Department.

The fire happened about 4:30 a.m. at a home on the 200 block of Hughes Street, according to Capt. Scott Grant, a Lancaster Police spokesman. There was at least one person inside the home when the fire started, but no injuries were reported.

The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the cause of the blaze, Grant said. He could not comment on how it started but said arson is suspected because of “some statements the homeowner made” and the suspicious origin of the fire.

There was “significant” damage on the home, but it’s not clear if the house is a total loss, Grant said.
