Police: “Movers” found at new York home were burglars

Two people moving into a new home were surprised when they dropped by to discover men moving large appliances out of the house.

After checking with the homeowner, they discovered the men were actually stealing from them, according to a York police report.

When the women stopped by the home on East Madison Street at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday to check it out before moving in. But she discovered the front door open, and two men approximately in their 40s loading a white, glass-top stove into the back of a red Ford pickup truck.

Before the men left, one of them came into the house with the woman and told her the refrigerator also belonged to him, and he would be coming back to take it as well.

The woman contacted the homeowner about the situation, at which point she learned no one was supposed to be inside the house or removing anything from it.

The homeownere estimated the cost of the stolen stove at $300.
