Report: Rock Hill shoplifter threatened suicide with scissors

A woman caught shoplifting at a Rock Hill store grabbed a pair of scissors in the store’s office and threatened suicide while waiting for police, according to law enforcement records.

Officers responded to a shoplifting call at a store on Cross Pointe Drive about 4:20 p.m. Wednesday, police said. A store employee told them the female suspect “began to act irrational and suicidal” after she was caught shoplifting several clothing items.

After the woman was caught shoplifting, a loss prevention employee escorted her to an office in the back of the store to wait for police, the report states. In the office, the woman grabbed a pair of scissors “and threatened to kill herself.”

The employee got the scissors away from the woman just before officers arrived, police said. The woman was taken to Piedmont Medical Center for an evaluation and then to the Rock Hill city jail, where she was charged with shoplifting.
