Report: Rock Hill woman left behind two dogs after moving out

A Rock Hill woman moved out of her home and left two small dogs inside the house for several days, Rock Hill police say.

A woman who lives on Nuthatch Drive told officers Sunday that a neighbor had moved to Raleigh, but left the dogs behind, according to a police report. The woman said she had not seen anyone come by the home in several days.

Two other neighbors told officers they had seen several furniture items strewn throughout the yard, police said. One neighbor said he wanted to see if anyone had come to the home to care for the dogs. Another told police he spoke with the dogs’ owner on Nov. 29, when she told him she was moving to her mother’s home in Raleigh “immediately.”

Officers looked through doors and windows and saw the dogs inside, the report states. After obtaining a search warrant, they seized both dogs from the home, which was littered with various debris and clothing items.

In a back bedroom, police found a “large amount” of dog feces and several urine stains. They found a bowl containing dirty water and an empty food bowl in another bedroom, police said.

The dogs were turned over to York County Animal Control. No arrests have been made, and the case remains under investigation.
