8 jailed for marijuana after Rock Hill police investigate call about wanted man
Eight people were arrested on marijuana charges Sunday after someone reported a wanted man walking through a neighborhood, according to Rock Hill Police.
Officers on patrol about 1:15 p.m. were told a man wanted by the state Department of Corrections was walking around on the 1200 block of Amelia Avenue, according to a police report. Minutes later, officers stepped out to talk with eight men at a home on Amelia Avenue.
A records check revealed one of the men was wanted by the Department of Corrections, but he took off running as an officer tried to handcuff him, police said. Officers chased and tackled the man to the ground nearby and handcuffed him.
On the outside porch where that man had been sitting, police found in plain view a pill bottle with four bags of marijuana. When asked who owned the marijuana, the men at the home “began to act extremely disorderly, cursing at the officers on scene and not complying.”
Additional police units were called, and the eight men were taken into custody, police said. While one man was in the patrol car, officers found two bags of marijuana and two counterfeit $20 bills on the floorboard.
Each man charged with simple possession of marijuana-first offense. The Herald does not identify suspects charged with simple possession of marijuana.
A hold for the Department of Corrections was placed on the first suspect.
