A Rock Hill man was charged with attempted murder after, police say, he shot a man in the foot Sunday.

James Wilbur Jones III, 42, was also charged with possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to jail records. He was placed in the Rock Hill city jail, where he was awaiting a bond hearing Monday afternoon.

Officers responded to a shooting on the 500 block of Annalinde Lane and found the victim sitting at a picnic bench in the driveway, according to a police report. The victim told officers he had been shot in the foot and could not walk, and that the suspect, whom he identified as Jones, was still armed and inside the home.

Jones fled the home shortly before officers arrived, the report states. A family member spoke with him on the phone and talked him into coming back to the home.

Jones returned to the home and was arrested, police said. The gun he used to shoot the victim was found in the laundry room.
