Police: Crack, marijuana found in stolen car that crashed in Rock Hill
Rock Hill Police found crack cocaine, marijuana and probation paperwork in a car that a man took without permission and crashed into a fence Friday morning, according to law enforcement records.
An officer began following a white Oldsmobile Cutlass near Heckle Boulevard and Crawford Road Friday after noticing the driver wasn’t wearing a seat belt, according to a police report. The officer continued following the car as it sped up and went through a stop sign and nearly strike another car on Flint Hill Street.
The Oldsmobile slid across some grass and hit a fence as the driver tried to turn right onto Knighton Street, police said. The driver, 29-year-old Ledarious Moffatt, got out and fled on foot. He was later arrested about 100 yards from the crash site.
Inside the car, officers found paperwork from the S.C. Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services with Moffatt’s information, police said. They also found 6.23 grams of crack cocaine and a marijuana cigarette inside the car.
Moffatt was charged with possession with intent to distribute crack cocaine-third offense, possession of marijuana-first offense, failure to stop for blue lights, driving under suspension and a seat belt violation, according to the report.
Friday afternoon, investigators learned that the Oldsmobile had been reported stolen to the York County Sheriff’s Office, police said. The owner, Moffatt’s owner, said someone took the car while he was at work.
Moffatt’s mother told officers Moffatt left that morning driving the Oldsmobile, and that he wasn’t supposed to be driving because he didn’t have a driver’s license. The mother said the vehicle wasn’t stolen but was taken without permission.
