A Fort Mill man was charged with attempted murder after firing a rifle at a man in Rock Hill, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.

Jose Antonio Ricardo Ramos, 40, of Ed Thompson Road in Fort Mill, was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to jail records. He was placed in the York County Detention Center, where he remained Tuesday without bond and with a hold placed on him for another agency.

Deputies responded just before noon Saturday to the 1100 block of Mt. Gallant Road, where someone reported that an intoxicated man was holding a rifle, according to a sheriff’s report. The caller initially said the man wasn’t threatening anybody with the gun.

An anonymous witness told deputies Ramos appeared intoxicated while showing him the gun. Ramos told the witness “someone was out to get him and he was going to settle it today,” the report states. The witness tried calming Ramos down and even bought him a meal before walking away to call 911.

The victim said he arrived at the location and went to get food from a taco truck, deputies said. The victim said after he parked, Ramos stood up and began yelling and cussing at him about the location of the victim’s parked truck. He then picked up the gun and pointed it at him.

Ramos fired a shot from the gun after the victim took cover behind his truck, deputies say. As the victim ran from the truck to a nearby building, Ramos fired two more shots at him.

Ramos fled in his vehicle, and officers later located him at his home in Fort Mill by tracking pings from his phone, according to the report. No injuries were reported.
