Police: Rock Hill robbery suspect struck man with car while intoxicated
A Rock Hill man was arrested Tuesday night after police say he attempted to kidnap a man he robbed at gunpoint then struck with his car while driving under the influence.
Daryll Trey Adkins III, 21, was arrested by police after a traffic stop on McConnells Highway, according to a Rock Hill Police Department report.
A man told police he was taken from Herlong Avenue around 5 p.m. Tuesday to what he called a “crack house” on Shiloh Road outside the city limits. There he was robbed of his a backpack, iPhone, a box of chocolates and other items, according to spokesman Trent Faris of the York County Sheriff’s Office, which also investigated the incident.
The man then said Adkins forced him into a car “to go with him to rob other individuals,” according to the report, then drove around until he stopped at a gas station on the 900 block of Cherry Road around 9 p.m. Once there, the man jumped out of the car, and Adkins drove forward and struck him in the left leg. The man called police from inside the gas station.
Police located Adkins’ vehicle on McConnells Highway near Nations Trail Court, where officers said they smelled a “strong odor of marijuana” and said Adkins was lethargic and unsteady on his feet. He refused a breath test.
Adkins was charged with armed robbery, leaving the scene of an accident, and driving under the influence. Police are also investigating possible kidnapping charges, according to Rock Hill Police spokesman Mark Bollinger.
