A Rock Hill man was charged with burglary and assault after, police say, he followed a man to his home and hit him with a crowbar.

The incident happened Dec. 20 at a home on the 200 block of Greentree Court, according to a police report. The victim said that while driving home, he had to swerve to avoid hitting a car parked on Irwin Street because he was eating and not paying attention.

The victim later noticed that the car he almost hit was following him, and that as he got out of the car at his home, the second vehicle pulled up at his house and stopped, police said. The suspect, identified as 21-year-old Donterell Evans, got out of his car and began yelling at the victim.

Evans had a crowbar in his hand and “charged” at the victim, who ran toward the door of his home, police said. As the victim ran into his home, Evans reportedly ran in after him and hit him in the back with the crow bar, leaving a laceration on the victim’s back.

The victim directed officers to a home on the 1200 block of Crawford Road where he said Evans lived.

A woman inside the home invited officers inside, police said. A man in a picture on the wall inside the home matched the description of the assault suspect, and when asked by officers who the man was, the woman became upset and began yelling at the officers to get out.

Police searched the address in their records and found that Evans lives at the home, the report states. They created a photo lineup, in which the victim identified Evans as his attacker.

Evans was charged Wednesday with burglary and first-degree assault and battery, according to the report. He was placed in the Rock Hill city jail, where he was expected at a bond hearing Wednesday afternoon.
