Police: Man meeting stranger to buy Xbox robbed in Rock Hill parking lot
A Charlotte man who came to Rock Hill expecting to buy an Xbox ended up getting robbed instead.
Deante Javon McGraw, 19, of Rock Hill is charged with strong-arm robbery over the incident, according to Rock Hill Police.
The 23-year-old victim waved down a Rock Hill patrol car on Longsight Lane around 9:30 a.m. and said he had been robbed of $200. He said he was meeting someone in an apartment complex parking lot to purchase the Xbox when McGraw got out of an older model pickup truck and began “roughing him up,” demanding money. McGraw reportedly took the money meant for the Xbox and fled the area on foot, according to the police report.
According to the arrest warrant, the man brought a box labeled as containing an Xbox, but was actually full of socks.
The victim pointed out to police the truck the robber arrived in driving by, and police initiated a traffic stop on Springsteen Road. The driver of the truck was found to have a suspended license and was taken into custody, although investigators did not charge him with involvement in the robbery.
Investigators later arrested McGraw and charged him with the crime.
