Report: Man with stun gun held Rock Hill store employee against her will
A York man was charged with kidnapping and assault after, police say, he entered a Rock Hill store and held an employee against her will using a stun gun.
Michael Brookshire, 23, of Adicks Court in York was charged with kidnapping and assault and battery, according to a police report. He was placed in the Rock Hill city jail, where he was awaiting a bond hearing Tuesday morning.
Officers responded to Metro PCS on Heckle Boulevard about 12:30 p.m. Monday after a caller reported a suspicious person inside the store, according to the report. The suspect had locked the door and reportedly had a stun gun.
Police say they made contact with Brookshire, who was standing at the counter, and asked him to step outside. Brookshire told officers he had a stun gun in his pocket but officers didn’t find one. A stun device was later found in Brookshire’s vehicle, police said.
A female employee told officers that Brookshire walked into the store, asked to use the restroom and then asked to see some headphones. The employee allowed Brookshire to open a package, and he used a razor blade from a yellow box of blades in his pocket to open the box.
While the employee assisted another customer, Brookshire went back out to his vehicle, where he put on his hat and gloves and picked something up from the front seat and placed it in his jacket, police said. The employee went to close the door after he entered, but he locked it and told her “she had to stay.”
When the employee tried to unlock the door, Brookshire pulled out the stun gun and set it off, the report states. He told the woman “she wasn’t going anywhere,” but she was able to get out and go to a nearby store.
