Rock Hill driver accused of leaving scene after crashing into pregnant woman, deputy
A man fled on foot after crashing his truck into an SUV driven by a York County sheriff’s deputy, whose pregnant wife was in the passenger seat, according to Rock Hill Police.
James David Collins Jr., 42, of Rock Hill, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with personal injury and driving under suspension, according to law enforcement records. He was placed in the Rock Hill city jail, where he remained Monday under $8,000 bond.
Officers responded to a crash on the 2100 block of Cherry Road about 12:45 p.m. Sunday, according to a police report. They found a white Ford Ranger and a black Honda CR-V, both with “heavy damage.” The driver of the Ford pickup, Collins, had fled on foot.
The driver, a York County sheriff’s deputy, had minor injuries, police said. His wife, who is pregnant with twins, was taken to a hospital.
Police circulated the area of Myers Street and found Collins, who disregarded officers’ commands to stop. Collins then led police on a foot chase to the 1200 block of Stoneypointe Drive, where he was arrested, a report states.
Officers later discovered that Collins’ license was suspended for failure to pay traffic tickets in 2015, the report states.
