Report: Dog left in Rock Hill home after occupants move out
Residents of a Rock Hill home left a dog behind when they moved out after power to the home was cut off, according to police.
York County Animal Control officers told police they received several complaints of an abandoned animal inside a home on Spruce Street on Sunday. Neighbors told Rock Hill officers the home’s occupants left after the city cut off power to the home. A pit bull was reportedly left behind, locked inside the home.
An animal control officer went to the home Friday to tell the residents to secure the dog within 72 hours or it would be impounded, police said. The officer went back later and found the dog was still inside.
A neighbor said he fed the dog through an unsecured door but was unable to give it water, police said. An officer secured the dog and found no one in the house.
Animal Control took custody of the dog. Police say neighbors were unable to get in touch with the home’s former occupants.
