Report: Suspect jumped out of window to avoid Rock Hill drug bust
Four people were arrested and a fifth is on the run after he jumped out of a window during a drug bust at a Rock Hill home, according to police.
Officers went to an apartment on Coronet Court Monday afternoon after someone called 911 and hung up, according to a police report. They heard a young girl yelling inside the apartment, and after receiving no answer when they knocked on the door, became concerned a child was inside alone.
An officer found the property manager, who opened the door. Police say they noticed a strong odor of marijuana in the home and found two people – Jermichael Michaux, 26, and Miya McCrorey, 19 – on a couch in the living room. A third adult, Anthony Christopher Shannon Jr., came down the stairs with an infant in his arms, and a fourth, Reginald Lamon Jr., 24, was found in the kitchen.
When an officer requested identification from Shannon, he said his ID was upstairs, so the officer told him to get it. When he didn’t return, the officer went upstairs to look for him and found a rear bedroom window open.
The homeowner and mother of the children, Nikai Miller, 25, later arrived and said she had been at the store, police said. She told officers she left her brother, Shannon, to take care of her 2-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter.
Detectives arrived with a warrant and began searching the home. Inside a gray backpack in the attic, police found a jar of marijuana, a cup with marijuana, and a cigarette box with five individually-wrapped packs of cocaine.
In a bedroom, police say they found a second jar of marijuana, Shannon’s ID and a backpack containing a third jar of marijuana.
During the search, investigators say, they located about 152 grams of marijuana, a plastic bag containing 25 bars totaling 100 doses of Xanax and 19 individually-wrapped bags of crack cocaine.
Michaux, McCrorey, Lamon and Miller were charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession with intent to distribute a schedule IV controlled drug, according to police records. Because the home is within a half-mile of Clinton College, each also was charged with possession with intent to distribute within a half-mile of a park, playground or school.
The two children were turned over to Miller’s mother. Shannon is still on the run and has warrants for possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession with intent to distribute a schedule IV controlled drug and possession with intent to distribute within a half-mile of a park, playground or school, said Capt. Mark Bollinger, police spokesman.
Investigators also determined the pistol in the backpack was Shannon’s, so he will be charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
