Report: Rock Hill man trying to shoot cat hits neighbor’s home
A Rock Hill man who fired several shots from his rifle, including one that traveled through a neighbor’s living room and bedroom, told officers he was trying to shoot a cat, according to police.
A woman on the 300 block of Maple Street reported hearing a firearm discharge several times outside her home just before 1 p.m. Thursday, according to a report. She said at least one round struck her bedroom window and passed through her bedroom wall, getting stuck in her living room wall.
Detectives examined the trajectory of the shot and determined it came from either a home on the 300 block of Friedheim Road or just to the left of the home. While detectives were standing outside the home they suspected on Friedheim Road, 18-year-old Quandrekus White exited, walked down the steps and past detectives without saying anything.
When asked if he heard any gunshots earlier, White said no and walked back into the home, police say. Detectives found a spent .22-caliber casing in the side yard of the home and another casing lying on top of a planter in plain view on the front porch.
“White admitted he was shooting at a cat but said he did not mean to hit anyone’s home,” the report states.
White told officers the rifle was behind his refrigerator, and gave them permission to seize it. He was charged with discharging a firearm in city limits and placed in the Rock Hill city jail, where he remained Friday morning under $800 bond.
