Two teens jailed for home invasion, armed robbery of elderly Clover man
Two teenagers were charged Thursday with breaking into a Clover home in the middle of the night and robbing the 84-year-old owner at gunpoint, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.
Kyler Storm Brakefield, 19, of Clover, and 18-year-old Jordan Lee Brooks of Rock Hill, were arrested Thursday in connection with the July incident, according to jail records. Each was charged with armed robbery, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, kidnapping, first-degree burglary and criminal conspiracy.
A third suspect, 21-year-old Wesley Lamar Henning, of Rock Hill, was arrested in August and faces the same charges.
All three remained in the York County Detention Center without bond Friday.
The home invasion happened in the early hours of July 10 at a home on Cedar Grove Road in Clover, according to a sheriff’s report.
The resident told deputies he was woken in bed by three men shouting and pointing guns at him. The suspects got the man out of bed and yelled at him to give them money and tell them where his safe was located.
The suspects took the victim’s wallet containing $1,000 cash and $400 in gift cards and his cellphone, deputies said. They then forced him into the living room and continued demanding the location of the safe.
One suspect even put his gun in the victim’s mouth and pulled it out.
Deputies say the men searched the home, dumped out drawers and filled a garbage bag with items. The victim took them to his safe, where they yelled at him and pointed guns at his head until he remembered the code to open it.
The suspects took from the safe a shotgun, pistol and rifle, the report states. They grabbed other items from the home including a laptop and checkbook before leaving through the front door.
The victim, who was not injured, said he did not see the vehicle in which the suspects left, deputies said. He walked to a neighbor’s home to call for help.
Henning was developed as a suspect and arrested in August on an unrelated incident, investigators say. He gave a statement on the involvement of the other two suspects.
