A Rock Hill felon out on bond for drug charges after two previous convictions for drugs was arrested after a chase Monday after an alert officer tried to stop him because a license tag was stolen, according to police reports.

Dontavius O’Neal Jones, 26, fled from York County Sheriff’s Office deputies Monday after a patrol officer tried to stop Jones because the tag on the car Jones was driving came back as stolen. The deputy was able to pull Jones over on Colony Road just outside the Rock Hill city limits, but three officers from Rock Hill sent three officers after the deputy stopped Jones and was holding the vehicle at gunpoint until backup could arrive, a Rock Hill police report shows.

Police from both agencies removed Jones from the car and found Jones had warrants from Rock Hill police for burglary, domestic violence and malicious damage to property. Jones was eventually charged by deputies with possession of both cocaine and marijuana, failure to stop, obstructing justice, driving under suspension and possession of a stolen vehicle, according to jail records.

Jones remains in the York County jail under a $20,000 bond, but still faces a hold for the Rock Hill warrants that have yet to be served, said Mark Bollinger, spokesman for the Rock Hill police.

Court records show Jones was arrested in October on drug charges that are pending and he was released on $5,000 bond. Jones was convicted in 2013 and 2010 on drug charges, records show.
