A man is facing charges after Rock Hill police say he walked away from officers and hid the gun he was carrying inside a motel room microwave.
Lajuandree Reakeemion Burris, 22, was arrested Saturday night at a motel on Riverview Road and charged with unlawful carrying of a pistol.
Burris was among a group of four men officers found standing around a parking lot at 12:30 a.m. Saturday. When officers approached the group, Burris reportedly walked away, went up a stairwell into the motel and into a room, all while the officer told him to stop and come back.
An officer followed Burris and meet him outside the room he had just entered. Burris claimed he hadn’t heard the officer talking to him, according to an arrest report.
The officer then spoke to a woman inside the motel room, who gave him permission to search the room. Inside, the officer reportedly found a Smith & Wesson .40 caliber handgun placed inside the room’s microwave.
Burris reportedly told the officer he was carrying the gun in the parking lot and hid it because he was not carrying a concealed weapons permit. A check with dispatch showed that Burris doesn’t have a concealed carry permit in South Carolina, the report states.
Burris and the handgun were both taken into custody.
