Report: Rock Hill drug suspect on bicycle tries to flee police

A Rock Hill man was jailed on drug and weapon charges after trying to evade police on a bicycle and then on foot, according to law enforcement records.

An officer saw Adrian Christopher Hayden, 29, riding a bicycle on a Green Street sidewalk about 11 p.m. Friday, according to a police report. The bicycle did not have a light on the front, so the officer turned on his car’s blue lights to signal for Hayden to stop.

Hayden accelerated on the bike and then fled on foot behind a home on the 400 block of Green Street, where the officer captured and handcuffed him, police said. A .25-caliber pistol was lying on the ground near Hayden, who later admitted to possessing the firearm.

During a search, officers also found a plastic bag containing crack cocaine, the report states. Hayden was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine-fifth offense, and unlawful carry of a pistol. He remained in the York County Detention Center on Monday under $50,000 bond.
