Report: York Prep student had knife in pocket, machete in truck

A York Preparatory Academy student had a pocket knife in his pocket and a machete in his truck at school on Monday, according to Rock Hill Police.

Officers responded to the charter school after other students told officials the student had a knife, according to a police report. The principal said the student had a black credit card knife in his pocket, and a 12.5-inch machete and pocket knife in his truck in the school parking lot.

An officer seized the knives and placed them into evidence. Police say the student’s mother was notified and came to the school.

The student, whose age and identity were indicated in the report, was petitioned to family court for carrying a weapon on school grounds and released to his mother.
