An unknown vandal caused more than $2,000 in damage this week to a Fort Mill church, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded to MorningStar Fellowship Church on Star Light Drive late Tuesday afternoon, according to a sheriff’s report. A staff member said a storage room door had been pried open and that there was graffiti spray painted on the storage room walls.
In the facility’s grand ballroom, deputies say they found 22 holes in the ceiling tiles and pieces of ceiling on the floor. There were 18 holes in the drywall around the ballroom.
The staff member told deputies he saw two cans of spray paint by a side door and noticed a man walking from the building. The man “was very nervous” and had a fresh cut on his pinky finger, the report states. The staff member got several photos of the alleged suspect on his phone.
A K-9 team responded but was unable to track the suspect because there was too much foot traffic in the area, deputies said.
The church staff member said the damage to the walls and ceiling alone was more than $2,000. No arrests have been made.
