An alleged assault will delay the revelation of who fathered someone’s baby.

Rock Hill police arrested a man at a paternity lab after he reportedly punched the other man who may be the father.

William Arnold Carpenter III, 29, was charged with disorderly conduct/fighting after police were called to a medical suite on the 700 block of Cherry Road shortly after 1 p.m. Monday, according to a police report.

The other man told police he was sitting in the lobby when Carpenter approached and told him to stop calling him. The victim told Carpenter to “shut the (expletive) up,” at which point Carpenter claims he “blacked out” and punched him in the face, the report states.

Carpenter told police the two men “are in dispute over who the father of a particular child is.” Carpenter arrived for a DNA test and was upset to see the other man there, as he had asked to be scheduled at a different time.
