Thief damages Rock Hill car wash vacuums in hunt for coins

A thief looking for spare change has left patrons of a Rock Hill car wash unable to vacuum their vehicles.

Rock Hill police were called to the car wash on the 400 block of South Wilson Street at 6 p.m. Wednesday after someone reportedly broke open the vacuum in the car wash stalls and tore open the vacuum bags, in an apparent attempt to steal change.

The manager of the car wash told police this happens “constantly,” according to a police report. He couldn’t identify a suspect, although a customer told him an “older man” was seen opening the vacuums earlier that morning.

The damage to the vacuums is valued at about $50.
