Two masked men robbed a man at gunpoint outside a Walmart store in Lancaster, according to police.

Officers responded to a robbery at the Walmart on the S.C. 9 bypass about 11:30 p.m. Monday, according to a statement from the Lancaster Police Department. The victim said he was there to empty trash containers on the south end of the store when two men approached him, showed their guns and demanded the victim’s money.

The victim told officers the suspects took cash and his ID card and ran toward the Lancaster High School stadium bus lot. The men were wearing red, white and blue ski masks, white T-shirts and dark shorts.

Lancaster police officers and Lancaster County sheriff’s deputies set up a perimeter, and K-9 teams scoured the area with no results, police said. No arrests have been made, and the incident remains under investigation.

“This is a terrifying and atrocious incident,” Chief Harlean Carter said. “We are thankful that the victim was not physically harmed. The Lancaster Police Department will continue to investigate this incident with fervor and vigilance.”

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call the Lancaster Police Department at 803-283-1173 or the anonymous tip line at 803-289-6040.
