Report: Suspect flees Rock Hill robbery attempt empty-handed

MCT

An armed suspect aborted his robbery attempt at a Rock Hill restaurant when the employee he was holding up walked away to get help opening the register, according to police.

The robbery happened at about 9:45 p.m. Monday at Cicis Pizza on Cherry Road, according to a police report. An employee told officers a man wearing all black walked to the counter with a black T-shirt or mask over his face and pointed a small black gun at her.

The suspect held a camouflage bag and told the employee to put the money inside, police said. The employee said she didn’t know how to open the cash register and would go get someone. When the employee turned around to go to the back, the suspect ran out of the store toward Cherry Road.

A witness in the restaurant told officers he only saw a man at the counter holding up a bag, but noticed the mask on the suspect’s face as he ran out.

Police say no money was taken, and that surveillance footage was not available.
