SC man found dead after standoff with deputies

A Pickens County man who authorities say shot his neighbor is now dead after barricading himself in his home.

Pickens County Sheriff Rick Clark tells local media that authorities received a 911 call Wednesday afternoon reporting that a woman had been shot. The shooting victim was able to tell deputies that the man across the street had shot her.

He had locked himself in his home when deputies arrived.

A SWAT team tried for three hours to get the man to come out of his house, before eventually resorting to tear gas and entering the residence. Officers found the man’s body inside.

Clark says he doesn’t know how the man died. The man’s identity hasn’t been released.

The woman is recovering at Greenville Memorial Hospital.
