A Rock Hill man was charged with attempted murder and kidnapping after shooting a gun at one of his brothers, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to an incident involving a man with a gun on Brakewood Drive in Rock Hill just after 9 p.m. Sunday, according to a sheriff’s report. They found the suspect, Hayward Steele, 62, in the driveway and detained him.

One of Steele’s twin brothers told deputies he was sitting in a chair in a shop building on the property when Steele entered, slapped him in the face and pulled a gun, which he shot in the victim’s direction, the report states. The round struck the wall near where the victim was standing.

Steele told his brother to stand up, pointed the gun at the back of his head and told him to walk out of the building, deputies said. The second twin brother said he walked outside after hearing a shot and saw Steele pointing a gun at his twin brother. Steele then pointed the gun at him, the report states.

Steele told deputies he got into a fight with one of his brothers because someone unplugged his freezer, causing his meat to spoil. He said there was no incident and that he never had a gun.

Deputies found a shell casing in the shop building where the shooting allegedly happened.

Steele was charged with attempted murder, kidnapping and pointing and presenting a firearm, according to jail records. He was placed in the York County Detention Center, where he remained Tuesday without bond.
