Man, juvenile charged in Clover armed robbery
Two people, including a juvenile, were charged with robbing a man of his shoes at gunpoint last month, according to the Clover Police Department.
Joshua Darnell Adams, 19, of Kennedy Street in Clover, was charged with armed robbery, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, criminal conspiracy and petty larceny, according to jail records. He was placed in the York County Detention Center, where he remained Friday under $40,000 bond.
The juvenile suspect’s name is not being released because of his age.
Adams and the victim met at a gas station several weeks before the May 28 robbery, according to the incident report. The victim sells shoes and told officers he received a text from Adams, whom he knew as “Hatch,” about meeting up the night of the robbery so he could purchase shoes.
The victim said he arrived at their meeting spot at a business on Kings Mountain Street, but Adams called and told him to meet on Beamguard Street, police said. Once the victim arrived, Adams and another suspect got into his vehicle and told him to drive to Roosevelt Park.
At the park, the victim said, Adams pulled out a pistol and “asked him if he wanted to buy it for $175,” the report states. The victim declined, at which point Adams cocked the pistol and said he was taking the shoes. When the victim swatted the gun away, the report states, Adams put the gun in the victim’s mouth and grabbed the shoes.
The back seat passenger who got in the car with Adams told him to check the victim’s pockets and take the shoes he was wearing, police said. Adams took the man’s shoes and $50 cash, and when leaving told the victim, “Remember my face. This is my hood.”
The victim said he left the park and called a family member, who told him to call the police.
