Police: Rock Hill man tried to rape York woman in her home
York police arrested a sex offender who is accused of forcing his way into a woman’s home Tuesday and attempting to rape her, according to law enforcement records.
Sean Karsten Gustafson, 37, of Rollingwood Circle in Rock Hill, was charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct and first-degree burglary, according to jail records. He was placed in the Moss Justice Center.
The attack happened about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday at a York apartment, according to a police report.
The victim, who said she knew Gustafson, told officers she was watching TV on the couch in her apartment while her young son slept in her bedroom. She heard a knock on the door and answered it, believing it was her friend.
Gustafson forced his way into the home when the woman opened the door, the report states. And while she sat on the couch, covered with a blanket, Gustafson talked about their mutual friend. The victim said “she believed everything was OK.”
Gustafson began touching the victim, including her private parts, and took the blanket from her, police said. He pulled off her pajama bottoms and made sexual advances on the victim, who repeatedly said no and screamed for him to stop.
The victim said she pushed Gustafson off and got her pajama bottoms and blanket, which she wrapped around her, the report states. Gustafson again forced himself on the victim and kissed her on the lips, police say. She screamed again, prompting Gustafson to leave.
Gustafson was convicted of a committing a lewd act on a child under 16 in 2001, according to the report, which requires him to have to register as a sex offender, according to the S.C. Sex Offender Registry.
Investigators say the case remains open for further investigation.
