Police: Lancaster man charged with attempted murder after Thursday shooting
A Lancaster man was charged with attempted murder after, police say, he shot his wife in the chest during an argument Thursday.
Thomas Baker, 64, was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to Capt. Scott Grant of the Lancaster Police Department.
The shooting happened about 3:15 p.m. at an apartment on the 300 block of Chesterfield Avenue in Lancaster, Grant said. Officers responded and found the female victim with a gunshot wound to the chest.
“She said the person that shot her was still in the apartment,” Grant said.
Police set up a perimeter and made contact by cellphone with Baker, who eventually exited the home, Grant said. The victim, who was alert and talking the entire time, was airlifted to an unidentified hospital, according to authorities. Her condition was unknown Thursday evening.
Grant said the shooting happened during an argument between Baker and his wife. Baker told officers he pointed the gun at his wife but didn’t mean to shoot her, Grant said.
