Police: Man pointed gun, assaulted woman while driving in Rock Hill

A man was charged with aggravated domestic violence after allegedly pointing a gun at his child’s mother and hitting her with it, according to Rock Hill police.

Officers spoke Friday night with the victim, who said James Faulkenberry pointed a gun at her and threatened her while she was a passenger in his Chevrolet Tahoe, according to a police report. The victim said she and Faulkenberry got into an argument because Faulkenberry was mad she was “talking to” another man. She and Faulkenberry are not in a relationship but have a child together who was in the car with them at the time, police said.

At some point during the argument, Faulkenberry picked up a black handgun from his center console and pointed it at the victim, police said. He then allegedly hit the woman with the gun.

The victim told officers Faulkenberry took her phone and threw it to the floor when she tried to call 911. She reportedly tried to stab Faulkenberry with a screwdriver, at which point he dropped the gun and began hitting her with his hand.

The victim said Faulkenberry let her out of the car at someone’s home, police said.

Faulkenberry, who does not have a concealed-weapons permit, told officers he and the victim had a verbal dispute about their son being with her while she was around another man, the report states. He said he had a handgun in his hand and sitting on top of the cupholder for some of the ride but that he never said he would kill the victim, and that the victim tried to stab him with the screwdriver after he had put the gun down.

Faulkenberry was charged with criminal domestic violence of a high and aggravated nature and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, police said. He was placed in the Rock Hill city jail and released Saturday.
