Rock Hill man charged with attempted murder after baseball bat assault
A Rock Hill man was charged with attempted murder after he reportedly hit a man in the head twice with a baseball bat.
Travis Glenn Adkins, 34, of Scotland Yard, was charged with attempted murder and placed in the York County Detention Center, where he remained Wednesday without bond, according to jail records.
Deputies responded to an assault on Scotland Yard around 10:20 p.m. Tuesday and found the 46-year-old victim covered in blood from a head wound, according to a sheriff’s report. The victim told officers he and Adkins had been arguing over a woman and that they were texting back forth earlier about “finally settling the argument.”
The victim said he saw Adkins and another man outside with baseball bats, and that while he had his attention on the second man, Adkins hit him in the back of the head with the bat, deputies said. When the victim fell to the ground, Adkins allegedly hit him in the head a second time.
Adkins tried hitting the victim a third time but the victim was able to roll out of the way, the report states. He ran inside, retrieved his gun and fired a single shot into the ground to scare the men away.
Deputies saw blood splatter in the area where the alleged assault occurred and determined after speaking with witnesses that Adkins was trying to kill the victim. The report did not indicate the extent of the victim’s injuries.
