Police: Rock Hill homeowner shot at while confronting car break-in suspect

A Rock Hill man says he was shot at when he confronted a man breaking into his pickup early Monday, according to police.

The incident happened around 6 a.m. Monday on Chestnut Street, according to a police report. The victim said he saw the suspect looking into his pickup through the windows, which were rolled down. The victim told officers he did not know the suspect.

When the victim exited his home and asked the suspect why he was in his truck, the suspect, who was about 45 feet away, turned and fired a single shot from an unknown type of gun, police said. The suspect fled on foot toward South Spruce Street.

A witness told officers he heard a loud pop around the time of the shooting and saw the suspect flee when he looked outside.

Investigators say they found a bullet hole just to the right of the front door of the victim’s home and a single shell casing.

No arrests have been made.
