York woman accused of leaving dog in hot car while she shopped at Walmart
A York woman was cited for animal cruelty after police say she left a dog in a hot car while she shopped at Walmart.
Police on Sunday were called to the parking lot of Walmart on Liberty Street in York, where they found a small brown Dachshund inside the car. Three windows and the sun roof were open slightly, according to a York Police report.
A witness told officers she left Walmart around 7:10 p.m. and noticed the dog inside. Walmart officials paged the owner, and police unlocked one of the doors to give the dog water. A woman, man and toddler boy returned to the vehicle just before 9 p.m.
The woman, Kira Vess, 22, told police the 7-year-old dog named "Belle" was hers.
Because of the 95 degree temperature and the amount of time that had passed, police issued a ticket citing Vess with animal cruelty.
The York incident occurred just two days after another woman was arrested in Rock Hill, accused of leaving two puppies in a hot car while she ate at Olive Garden.
