Former Rock Hill murder suspect pleads guilty to federal gun charges
A 20-year-old Rock Hill man once charged in connection with a woman’s murder pleaded guilty on Tuesday to federal gun charges.
Robert Da’Quan Johnson plead guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, according to the US District Attorney’s office. He will be sentenced at a later date and faces a maximum of 10 years imprisonment and/ or a $250,000 fine.
Johnson was arrested on Sept. 7 after an officer clocked him speeding 20 mph over the limit. When Johnson exited his vehicle, police found a .22 caliber gun in his pants pocket and a bag of .22 ammunition in the vehicle. He was on parole at the time and prohibited from possessing firearms.
He was charged with carrying an unlawful weapon and speeding.
Johnson was also arrested in October and charged with murder in the August killing of Latoya Cureton, 27, who was found shot to death behind a former convenience store on Greene Street. That charge was later dropped with the right to restore as the investigation continues.
At the time of his October arrest, Johnson had been out of prison for seven months after being convicted on weapons and conspiracy charges. He served eight months of a five-year sentence.
