Naked man throws bed from Rock Hill motel room, accused of assaulting deputy
A naked man who threw the bed out of his Rock Hill motel room is also accused of threatening and assaulting a deputy, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.
Jeffery Allen Cumberledge, 52, of Edgemoor, is charged with disorderly conduct, malicious injury to property, third-degree assault and battery, threatening the life of a public official and possession of marijuana, according to jail records. He remained in the Moss Justice Center on Tuesday under $9,085 bond.
A deputy responded to a motel on North Anderson Road around 9 p.m. Friday after the manager reported a man running around naked outside, according to a sheriff’s report. He found Cumberledge lying on the asphalt wearing only a shirt, and he told the officer he was “so intoxicated that he could barely talk” to him.
The motel manager said he told Cumberledge to go back into his room because he had no clothes on, the report states. Cumberledge refused to cooperate with a deputy who tried to get him inside his room to get dressed, so the officer handcuffed him until a second deputy arrived to help dress Cumberledge.
Cumberledge had been living in a room at the motel and threw several items, including his bed, outside and broke two light fixtures in the room, deputies said. He began complaining of chest pains and was taken to Piedmont Medical Center.
On the way to the hospital, Cumberledge made several threats to the deputy, and at the hospital he continued threatening to kill the officer, the report states. At one point, Cumberledge reportedly got out of his seat and kicked the deputy in the knee.
