York shooting suspect still at large; his father killed in Christmas hit-and-run
Police in York are continuing their manhunt for a suspect in two shootings in the past month. The suspect’s father was killed in a felony hit and run Christmas night - but police do not suspect the shootings of having any connection to the father’s death.
York Police Department detectives have warrants for attempted murder and weapons against Anthony Christopher “Ant” Shannon Jr., 22, whom officers say should be considered armed and dangerous.
Police have been seeking Shannon, a felon who has past convictions for burglary, robbery and other crimes, for two weeks but have not yet located him, Lt. Rich Caddell said Wednesday.
On July 4 in an incident on Hickory Lane in York, Shannon allegedly shot a man he knew in a crime that was witnessed by several people. Shannon fled before police arrived.
Then on July 23, Shannon allegedly shot a second man in an incident on California Street in York, police said.
The shootings are not connected to the Christmas incident, Caddell said.
Shannon’s father, Anthony Shannon Sr., was killed Christmas night when walking in the road in York. The driver of that vehicle that hit Shannon Sr. was arrested days later and is serving two years in prison after pleading guilty to hit and run resulting in death. Shannon’s family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against all three men in the truck from the Christmas incident.
Shannon Sr. had a blood alcohol level of .387 - almost five times the legal limit, when he died and prosecutors said he was walking in the street.
Anyone with information on Shannon Jr. is asked to call York Police Department at 803-684-4141 or Crime Stoppers of York County toll free at 1-877-409-4321.
